Last month, the Women’s Recovery Center was invited to attend the Sherwin – Williams Women’s Club meeting aboard the Good Times III. Nicole Eyderdam, President, introduced the Center to the approximately 250 club members in attendance. That evening, the Club President announced that the Women’s Club was granting $1,500 to the Center for our new on-site childcare facility and that the Sherwin – Williams Foundation would be matching the gift. Thank you for your continued involvement and support of the Women’s Recovery Center.
Not only did the Center receive the financial support from the Club and Foundation, but members loaded a table of supplies for the childcare facility. As I had conversations with the members throughout the cruise, there were so many members that wanted to explore volunteer activities such as simply reading to the children, or working with clients to gain interviewing skills, or recruiting friends and colleagues to clear work apparel from their closets to re-fill the donation closet or, as clients refer to it, “The Boutique.” One generous Club Member offered to host an event in her home to introduce the Center and our mission to her friends. These generous gifts are essential for the implementation of the childcare facility.
Lack of access to safe childcare is cited as the largest barrier that women face in seeking addiction treatment. Another significant advantage to offering on-site childcare programming is the ability to monitor each child’s behaviors to determine developmental milestones. We will also be able to incorporate well-child check-ups and immunization requirements with collaborating partners. The Center will have the capacity to care for children from the age of two weeks to twelve years.
Thank you to the Sherwin – Williams Women’s Club for selecting the Women’s Recovery Center. It was a pleasure to meet so many of the members and it was a beautiful evening for a cruise.
