Al Gandarilla is the Women’s Recovery Center’s hero for the first half of 2020. We are honoring him with the first-ever, WRC Hero Award. This award is to honor those who have gone above and beyond to further the mission of the Women’s Recovery Center and our truly our heroes. This award will be given to to a Women’s Recovery Center stakeholder twice per year.

Al works for T.D. Security and has been posted at our building for five years. Every day, he follows procedures that keep our occupants safe and secure. Rounds are made, and an eye is kept on all staff and clients.

In the past couple of months, our hero has gone above and beyond. He provided security and parking assistance to over 100 people that attended our Grand Opening Celebration. He served food to our clients during the St. Patrick’s sober luncheon. His assistance is responsible for aiding the police in apprehending a burglar that damaged a front window. His new duties taken on due to COVID-19 include taking temperatures at the door and seeing that social distancing guidelines are followed.

In his spare time, Al likes to hunt and work on cars. He and his significant other have an eleven-year-old boy and a nine-year-old girl. His favorite movie is Bicentennial Man starring Robin Williams. If a movie were to be made about him, it would star Jean Claude Van Damme. Hero is a theme in his life. Most of all, Al is proud when a client completes treatment and graduates.
